Ministry of Defence: We condemn the fact of thievery in the Bagram Air base
The Ministry of Defence of Georgia condemns the fact of thievery in the Bagram Air base in Afghanistan, in which four Georgian military servicemen serving in the ISAF mission are presumably involved. Ministry released a statement in that regard.
According to the agency, the US military police is investigating the incident.
“According to the initial information, representatives of various countries, including four Georgian military servicemen, are related to the cases of thievery” – the statement of Ministry reads.
According to information, the trade facility in Afghanistan suffered a loss of $3600 due to the thievery.
“The Ministry of Defense closely cooperates with the American side. As soon as the case materials are delivered, the military police of the Georgian Armed Forces will determine the factual situation and provide more information to the public. Offenders will be punished according to the law.
It should be noted that the above mentioned is not of systemic character. The fact was painful for the Ministry of Defence and the Georgian Armed Forces, as well as the leadership and personal staff of the Georgian contingent in Afghanistan”, – reads the statement of the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry of Defence states that the individual actions of military servicemen should not be generalized to the entire Georgian peacekeeping contingent, as the self-sacrifice and authority of Georgian soldiers is recognized and appreciated by the international community.
