Minister of Economy views establishment of Economic Development Corporation as a logical continuation of economic policy, new opportunities and long-term development vision
“Georgian Economic Development Corporation is an institution which is a logical continuation of our country’s economic policy, new opportunities, heightened ambitions, and long-term vision for development,” said Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, during the presentation of the Economic Development Corporation.
According to Kvrivishvili, over the past decade, Georgia has undergone a significant economic transformation; the scale of the economy has grown, the private sector has strengthened, trade opportunities have expanded, and tens of thousands of new jobs have been created.
As she noted, today, Georgia has the opportunity to face the next stage of development with greater resources, experience, and ambitions. She recalled the year 2014 and the establishment of the Produce in Georgia program in support of small and medium-sized businesses; these 12 years brought tangible outcomes.
“More than 20,000 beneficiaries benefited from the state program. The volume of supported investments reached 8.5 billion GEL, and over 90,000 new jobs were created. During the same period, the output of small and medium-sized businesses increased nearly fourfold—rising from 14.8 billion to over 54 billion GEL. The number of people employed in the sector reached 544,000. Exports have doubled, while wages of workers employed in medium-sized businesses tripled.
These figures reflect a significant shift in the structure of Georgia’s economy. A stronger, more experienced, and competitive private sector has emerged in the country. In 2025, the country’s Gross Domestic Product reached 104.6 billion GEL, which is 3.3 times higher than in 2014,” she said.
