Mikheil Saakashvili: History might have changed if April 9 protesters had acted differently; freedom is now or never
“Arriving on October 4 and attending the rally is our last chance to save our country, which we may not have again for a long time, if at all,” former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili posted on social media.
Saakashvili urged his supporters to “Come out on October 4 and stand firm to the end.”
“I want to address my many supporters. Fellows, throughout every nation’s history, there are moments when immediate action is essential. Our country’s history might have developed differently if the protesters of April 9 had believed the calls and left the square. On November 23, many advised me not to enter Parliament, but I anticipated the exact moment when Shevardnadze was about to declare the parliament legitimate and interrupted his speech. Those calling for delaying or prolonging the struggle fail to consider that, after October 4, even these last free TV channels will be shut down. They are being kept open until then to promote the ‘elections’. Free universities will be destroyed because they don’t fit into the narrative of total brainwashing; many more will be detained, and others expelled. If this happens, widespread hopelessness will take hold, and the West will finally give up on us.
Therefore, arriving on October 4 and attending the rally is our last chance to save our country, which we may not have again for a long time, if at all. I urge everyone: let us arrive on the 4th and stand to the very end. Freedom is now or never!” Mikheil Saakashvili wrote.
