Migration Department detains ten foreign nationals during immigration enforcement operation
As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, staff of Georgia’s Migration Department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out a targeted immigration enforcement operation.
According to the Ministry, based on gathered intelligence, specific locations were searched by officers as part of this operation, which aimed to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without lawful grounds.
“Following a comprehensive operation, ten foreign nationals were detained. Among them are citizens of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, who were present in the country in violation of the provisions set out in Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons,” the ministry has stated.
Currently, those detained are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are underway to facilitate their deportation from the country.
The Migration Department will conduct such targeted immigration control measures regularly to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
