Migration Department detains 21 foreign nationals

As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) detained 21 foreign nationals through complex and special migration control measures.

According to the MIA, law enforcers checked specific locations with the aim of revealing illegal migrants residing in Georgia without proper legal documentation.

It was established that their presence in the country contravenes the provisions outlined in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’,” the Ministry stated.

There are citizens of India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Egypt among the detainees. They are placed at the Migration Department’s temporary isolator until the necessary procedures for their expulsion are complete.

The Migration Department affirmed that regular immigration control measures will continue to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s legislation regarding the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.
