Migration Department detains 20 foreign nationals in crackdown on illegal migration
In a concerted effort to combat illegal migration, officials from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) carried out a targeted immigration control operation.
According to the Ministry’s official statement, specific locations were inspected based on intelligence received, aiming to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without lawful authorisation.
“As a result of this comprehensive operation, twenty foreign nationals were detained. The group includes citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt, Jordan, the Philippines, and Turkmenistan. It was established that they were in the country in contravention of the provisions outlined in the Georgian Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
At present, these individuals are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are underway to facilitate their removal from the country,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
The Migration Department regularly conducts such special immigration controls to ensure the effective enforcement of the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
