Migration Department detained 55 foreign nationals during targeted immigration control operations
As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, officials from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) carried out targeted immigration control measures nationwide. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, these operations resulted in the detention of 55 undocumented foreign nationals, including citizens of Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Côte d’Ivoire, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan.
“Within the framework of these special immigration control operations, department personnel conducted checks at specific locations and facilities of various types, aiming to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.
It has been established that those detained are in the country in breach of the provisions outlined in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.’
The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are underway for their removal from the country,” the Ministry’s statement reads.
