Migration Department detain 33 foreign nationals during crackdown on illegal migration

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, the staff of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted a targeted immigration enforcement operation.

Based on gathered intelligence, the law enforcement officers inspected specific locations, aiming to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without lawful residence.

As a result of this comprehensive operation, 33 foreign nationals were detained. Among them are citizens of Ghana, Iraq, Pakistan, China, Yemen, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, India, and Bangladesh. It was established that their presence in the country was in breach of the provisions outlined in the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.

The individuals are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre, with procedures underway for their removal from the country.

The Migration Department consistently conducts specialised immigration controls to ensure the effective enforcement of the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
