MIA seizes large quantities of weapons and ammunition, detains three individuals in Samegrelo

Officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Mestia, and Chkhorotsku Police Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained three individuals, born in 1992, 1971, and 1947, following a comprehensive operation targeting the illegal possession and acquisition of weapons and ammunition in large quantities.

Following searches of the suspects’ personal, residential, and auxiliary storage spaces, as well as their vehicles, law enforcement officers recovered a variety of firearms and ammunition, including two automatic weapons, seven muzzleloaders, 164 cartridges, a revolver, a pistol, a single-barrelled rifle, detonator capsules, and the explosive substance TNT.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, those responsible face potential penalties of up to seven years in prison.

The investigation is currently ongoing under Parts 3 and 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, the MIA statement confirms.
