MIA seizes 298 kilograms of Heroin drugs, detains Georgian citizen
Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) seized 298 kilograms of Heroin drugs hidden in containers with an estimated value of GEL 85 million on the “black market.”
At the briefing, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze described the international drug trafficking case as “unprecedented in its scale.”
According to Darakhvelidze, a Georgian citizen is detained on charges of drug trafficking.
He provided the details of the investigation, saying Heroin was hidden in a truck loaded with fire-resistant bricks that entered Georgia from Armenia through the Geguti checkpoint and intended to travel to Europe, passing Batumi.
Law enforcement officers discovered 600 plastic containers imitating bricks during a detailed inspection of a truck trailer in the territory of the clearance economic zone and discovered drugs hidden in containers.
Further investigation is conducted under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The detained Georgian citizen faces up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
