MIA: Police thwart smuggling of significant quantities of narcotics into Georgia
Through joint operational efforts and investigative actions, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have detained a citizen of the Republic of Turkiye, identified as S.B., born in 1995, on charges of drug trafficking.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, he is accused of unlawfully purchasing, storing, and smuggling a substantial quantity of narcotics into Georgia.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs states that such a crime carries a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
“During a search of the suspect at the Sarpi border checkpoint, law enforcement officers seized a notably large quantity of cocaine, packaged in three parcels, which has been secured as evidence. The investigation remains ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
