MIA Migration Department deport 91 foreign nationals from Georgia

In November-December, officials from the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) deported 91 foreign nationals.

This action was carried out per the Georgian Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons, as reported by the MIA.

The deported individuals included citizens of Iran, Algeria, India, Morocco, Shi-Lanka, Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkmenistan and other countries. Some of them participated in the ongoing mass protests in Tbilisi. Ten expelled have already left Georgia’s territory.

The Migration Department deported 430 foreign nationals in2024, the number makes an increase by 126% year-on-year.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs statement explains, “The Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for combating illegal migration within the country. One of its key competencies is to identify foreign citizens residing in Georgia without legal grounds and to carry out their deportation from the country.”
