MIA launches investigation into attack on opposition members in Akhalkalaki

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation into an attack on members of “Power is in Unity” in Akhalkalaki town.

According to the Ministry, the investigation has been launched under paragraphs II and III, Article 239 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving hooliganism, an act that grossly violates public order and demonstrates clear disrespect towards the public, using violence or threat of violence, committed by a group with the preliminary agreement by using firearms or any other object as a weapon.

Ministry released an official statement saying that Samtskhe-Javakheti police department of the Internal Affairs Ministry has launched an investigation into the physical confrontation occurred in Akhalkalaki.

Based on MIA statement, the investigation established that on October 30, a physical confrontation occurred between several individuals outside the election headquarters of the “National Movement” Party at King Tamar Street in Akhalkalaki and the members of the “National Movement” HQ received various body injuries.
