MIA: Large cache of ammunition and equipment seized during detained individual’s apartment search
“During a search of the apartment of a person detained in Tbilisi on October 4, authorities uncovered a substantial cache of weapons and gear, including ammunition, muzzles, gas masks, helmets, a radio transmitter, and up to 150 cartridges concealed within a specially arranged hiding place,” stated Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze during a briefing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Darakhvelidze further explained that on the same day, law enforcement officers apprehended two individuals in Tbilisi.
“Officers from the Tbilisi City Patrol Police detained R.Sh., born in 1979, and S.F., born in 1978, on charges of illegal purchase and possession of firearms and ammunition under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. During a personal search, ammunition was recovered from R.Sh. The investigation established that this ammunition was intended for a firearm registered in his name, leading to his subsequent release.
As for S.F., during a personal search, law enforcement seized a firearm registered in his name. Additionally, a residential apartment in Batumi was searched, revealing a large quantity of ammunition, clamps, gas masks, helmets, radio transmitters, and up to 150 SIM cards. S.F. has been charged under Part 3 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the illegal acquisition and storage of firearms and ammunition. This offence carries a penalty of up to six years’ imprisonment. Prosecutors and investigators continue to conduct complex investigative actions in this case,” Darakhvelidze added.
