MIA detains individual in Sighnaghi for animal cruelty

Officers from the Sighnaghi District Department of the Kakheti Police, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), have apprehended a person identified as Z.Ch., born in 1977, who has a history of multiple convictions, on charges of animal cruelty.

According to the MIA, investigations revealed that the suspect injured a stray dog in Sighnaghi with a sharp object before fleeing the scene.

“The stray animal was subsequently taken to a shelter, where it is receiving appropriate treatment. Following law enforcement’s investigative efforts, Z.Ch. was detained as a suspect. The investigation is ongoing under Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment,” the statement reads.
