Mayor Kaladze: Georgia will not compromise its interests despite pressure from European bureaucrats

“In the elections, the Georgian people rejected European bureaucrats and their radical allies — and that’s what’s driving them mad. That’s why they are resorting to blackmail,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, responding to the European Parliament’s resolution on Georgia.

Kaladze emphasized that despite pressure from certain European officials, Georgia’s national interests will not be compromised.

“The responsibility lies with a handful of corrupt European bureaucrats who are trying to blackmail both the Georgian people and the state. We will not allow it. Whether it’s about European integration or personal matters, Georgia’s interests will not be sacrificed. We’ve seen similar attempts before — from the issue of candidate status to negotiations and now visa liberalization and the Association Agreement. If anyone objectively assesses our progress on European integration, it’s clear that Georgia is ahead of several countries that received candidate status earlier. But the attitude towards Georgia is different. European bureaucrats, in alliance with radical groups, have once again been defeated — and that’s what truly concerns them,” Kaladze said.
