PM: Georgia countered injustice, double standards, and blackmail with visa liberalization issue continues
“The attitude which European bureaucracy demonstrates toward the Georgian people is entirely unfair,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, delivering an annual report in the parliament.
According to the PM, despite an unfair attitude, Georgia has its path chosen and follows it.
“We have passed through complex processes in recent years. We faced injustice toward the Georgian people and encountered double standards. The attitude which European bureaucracy demonstrates toward the Georgian people is entirely unfair. How can it be explained that in June 2022, Ukraine and Moldova were granted candidate country status, but not Georgia? There is only one explanation: this is injustice and double standards. This is what they did in June of 2022 and at the beginning of 2023 admitted themselves that Georgia, more than any other candidate country, deserved the status.
This injustice continued for another 1.5 years. You could see that, at the same time as they were refusing us, sometimes to grant us candidate status or open negotiations, their funded ‘NGOs’ were attempting to organize a revolution in Georgia. To counter this, we were forced to adopt the Laws on Transparency and Grants, and you remember the reaction and lie that followed; Black day for Georgian democracy” were the words of the U.S. Ambassador acting during the previous administration. Shame. Georgia countered injustice, double standards, and blackmail with the visa liberalization issue, which is the continuation of that. This is a regrettable reality, but we must be patient,” he said.
The PM stated that Georgia consistently fulfils the EU integration-related commitments.
“We have fulfilled 680 % of commitments and 81%directly under the Association Agreement. This is our attitude and approach. Whatever the unfair attitude is on the part of European bureaucracy toward the Georgian people, we have our path chosen, and we follow it to the end,” he concluded.
