May 12 was declared the national holiday to mark the Day of Georgia’s presence under the auspices of Virgin Mary. The decision was made at the session of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church on December 27.

“The Synod heard the report of the Metropolitan Daniel of Chiatura and Sachkhere about the Apostolic Service in the history of Georgia: What has been done in the past and what should be done in the future. Georgia is coming under the auspices of Virgin Mary. The assembly has ruled May 12 to be declared the national holiday to mark the Day of Georgia’s presence under the auspices of Virgin Mary,” the statement of Holy Synod reads.
