Mamuka Bakhtadze: Choosing Brussels as my first foreign destination, as PM, was very logical

Georgia remains firm on European integration path; with this very reason, choosing Brussels as my first foreign destination, as a Prime Minister, was very logical, – Prime minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze made this statement at a joint press conference after the meeting with Donald Tusk, President of the European Council.

He thanked Donald Tusk for his contribution in advancing Georgia’s European integration process.

He said the prospects of cooperation were discussed during the meeting.

“During the meeting we had opportunity to assess the achievements of our bilateral agenda and discuss the further prospects of deepening our relation and cooperation. With the Association Agreement, including the DCFTA, in place, we have been overhauling our legislative and institutional system by bringing it in line with the EU norms and standards.
”, – Prime Minister said.

According to him, it has consolidated government’s reform efforts towards strengthening of democracy and good governance, rule of law and stability.

“Through the DCFTA we have been modernizing our economy and gradually integrating with the EU market. The reforms have been translated into a substantial increase of trade with the EU making the Union our largest trade partner”, – Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

As Georgia’s Prime Minister noted, Georgia have been speedily improving international rankings and building better business and investment climate.

“The visa-free regime has brought direct tangible results to Georgian citizens. It contributed to making business, academic, tourist and cultural ties even stronger between our societies. These achievements come with the responsibilities and we fully share them”,  – Bakhtadze added.
