Majority MP Sharmanashvili views Helsinki Commission meetings as unserious, show full of lies

“Ungrounded meetings of the Helsinki Commission become unserious. We should not expect objectivity. Today’s meeting will be another staged show full of lies,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Sharmanashvili, the invitation of Laura Thornton, McCain Institute Senior Director for Global Democracy Programs and former head of the NDI office in Georgia, makes the situation dire.

“This individual directly called on the Georgian population for disorder. Moreover, she stated that many rallies and demonstrations were held, but without casualties. She believes that sacred sacrifice in Georgia is essential. When such an individual is invited to the meeting who can provide subjective information to the commission, everything is clear.

This individual called the U.S. president something which I do not want to repeat since it is related to a sexual crime. This person was invited to the commission, where one of the leading figures is Wilson, a party member of the incumbent president. What are we dealing with? We have to deal with people who motivate ultra-radical groups, and such people are in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Therefore, we do not expect objectivity; the meeting will be another staged show full of lies,” he said.
