“Ungrounded meetings of the Helsinki Commission become unserious. We should not expect objectivity. Today’s meeting will be another staged show full of lies,” said Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Sharmanashvili, the invitation of Laura Thornton, McCain Institute Senior Director for Global Democracy Programs and former head of the NDI office in Georgia, makes the situation dire.

This person was invited to the commission, where one of the leading figures is Wilson, a party member of the incumbent president. What are we dealing with? We have to deal with people who motivate ultra-radical groups, and such people are in both the Democratic and Republican parties. Therefore, we do not expect objectivity; the meeting will be another staged show full of lies,” he said.
