Madeleine Albright –Poti Port’s expansion project indicates what U.S. and Georgia can achieve with joint work

Madeleine Albright, former United States Secretary of State and Head of Albright Stonebridge Group welcomed the launch of Poti Port’s expansion project with a letter.

According to the Press Service of Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Madeleine Albright underlines in the letter that the project indicates what the U.S. and Georgia can achieve with joint work.

“I am especially pleased about the strong support of the U.S. government to this project including about the USD 50-million investment of OPIC,” Albright said. She claimed that Poti was an important trade center and its expansion would help the city to gain more benefits.

With the financing of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the United States government’s development finance institution, the building of new infrastructure will begin in Poti port.

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili, OPIC Managing Director Kenneth Angell, James O’Brien, Vice Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG) and Mamuka Tsereteli, President of the US-Georgia Business Council participated in the ceremony of a symbolic lying of the capsule on the territory of PEI Terminal. Members of the Georgian government and representatives of Diplomatic Corps also attended the ceremony.

The port’s infrastructure project will be carried out by PEI Group. The infrastructure will be arranged across 25 hectares of land territory. The project’s cost is USD 120 million.
