Lelo’s Sioridze: No matter what GD does, we will not surrender; we will turn this shameful chapter in Georgian history
“Ivanishvili threatened us with the abolition of political parties long ago. The recent proposed amendments are entirely unconstitutional and aim to eliminate Ivanishvili’s opponents from the political arena,” said Giorgi Sioridze, a member of the Lelo-Strong Georgia party.
Sioridze commented on the proposed amendments that would impose restrictions on political participation in the wake of the Constitutional Court’s ruling.
According to Sioridze, the Lelo party will not cease its struggle against the regime.
“We are fully aware of the political system that Ivanishvili has imposed on the entire country, but we are prepared for all their moves. We reaffirm that any peaceful and constitutional means must be employed in this fight. Whatever actions Georgian Dream takes, we will not surrender. We are committed to uniting society and doing our utmost to turn this shameful chapter in Georgian history into a thing of the past,” he stated.
On October 13, a legislative package was submitted to Parliament outlining measures that, should the Constitutional Court uphold the claim, would prohibit certain political activities by specific individuals. These measures include bans on establishing political parties, holding or participating in political office, financing parties, and being included on party lists or nominated for electoral positions.
