Lelo's Japaridze says repressive regime uses prosecution, court as retribution tools against opponents

“Current repressive regime uses Prosecutor’s Office and court as tools for retribution against opponents,” said Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Lelo party.

According to Badri Japaridze, if anyone has claims, they are contrived by Tea Tsulukiani, Chair of the parliamentary interim investigative commission.

“My indictment is linked to non-attendance to the so-called commission’s meeting. I don’t have any prognosis for the prosecution’s further steps, but let us wait.

Obviously, the current repressive regime uses prosecution and the court as retribution tools against opponents. If anyone has claims, they are contrived by Tea Tsulukiani, but there is court to review claims,” he said.

Badri Japaridze believes that the commission resembles the so-called “Troika”-type group of the 1930s.

“Everyone involved in slander will be held accountable. However, in these 18 years, we have not received a single court application or lawsuit from anyone, as there is no basis for such actions. The commission resembles the Troika-type groups of the 1930s; it has resurrected the committees that operated during that era,” he stated.
