Lelo party does not plan self-liquidation, calls on international community to act decisively

“Bidzina Ivanishvili is dismantling democracy and eroding Georgia’s status as a democratic nation. Today, the Georgian Dream regime has unleashed the full force of the NKVD’s [People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs, abbreviated as NKVD] punitive and repressive machinery in an attempt to abolish Strong Georgia-Lelo. Since its inception, our party has challenged the vicious cycle of political bipolarity, providing a genuine alternative for hundreds of thousands of Georgian voters,” a message published on the Strong Georgia-Lelo Facebook page reads.

Lelo claims to fight both within the country and abroad to ensure Georgia never reverts to its Soviet past.

“Bidzina Ivanishvili is telling those who did not vote for Georgian Dream in the 2024 elections, and whose votes he is alleged to have stolen, that they will have no alternative. He is implying that they should accept living in a country modelled after Soviet Georgia, today’s Russia, and Belarus. He aims to turn Georgia into a North Korea-like state.

Since its founding, Strong Georgia–Lelo has been fighting, and continues to fight, to save the country from the oligarchic regime and to secure its European future.

We have already appealed to the Constitutional Court to use all the constitutional mechanisms available within the country. Currently, the Constitutional Court represents a vital safeguard that can preserve the remaining remnants of democracy in Georgia. We are not ready to declare self-liquidation or to surrender the interests of our voters and the Georgian people to Bidzina Ivanishvili and his corrupt, Russian-affiliated group.

We will continue to fight both within Georgia and abroad to ensure that the country never reverts to its Soviet past. In this struggle, we feel the unwavering support of our voters, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication.

We call on the international community to act decisively and prevent the final collapse of democracy in Georgia.

Strong Georgia–Lelo is a party that has offered a genuine alternative to the Georgian electorate and has been defending their interests for years. We will persist on this path and continue to develop effective resistance strategies for Georgian society.

The struggle endures; it will not cease until democracy is fully restored in the country and Georgia’s trajectory towards Euro-Atlantic integration is re-established.

You are right in fearing Strong Georgia, we will dethrone you,” reads the statement from Strong Georgia–Lelo.

Today, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, presented a constitutional lawsuit seeking to declare the activities of the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, and Strong Georgia–Lelo unconstitutional and ban them.
