Legal Affairs Committee backs second reading of amendments to Georgia’s Anti-Corruption Law
The Legal Affairs Committee discussed and endorsed the amendments to the Law of Georgia on Combating Corruption, introduced by the Georgian Dream faction and presented by Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee.
“Under the proposed amendments, individuals who commit official or financial crimes while in office will be required to submit detailed declarations of their assets, including real estate, movable property, and benefits received through transfers, for a period of 30 years. This information will be made public and subject to oversight by relevant authorities as well as public scrutiny.
If there was any hope among some that they might misuse funds for personal gain after serving their sentences, such possibilities will now be significantly curtailed.
This marks another crucial step in our ongoing battle against corruption, with active cooperation from all branches—executive, investigative, and legislative—as these amendments move forward. These measures will further bolster efforts to prevent future instances of corruption,” stated Archil Gorduladze.
