Leader of Federalists: Today’s rally aims to demonstrate resilience of society
“The goal of today’s rally aims to demonstrate the resilience of society,” said Tamar Chergoleishvili, leader of the Federalists party, remarking on the rally scheduled by the Opposition Alliance for May 26 evening.
According to Chergoleishvili, a new stage will commence from today in the protest movement.
“Today is May 26. Congratulations to everyone on Independence Day. At the same time, I remind you that our independence is at risk since Georgia is ruled by the regime, which has allied with our civilization’s adversaries and is adverse to friends. That is why, on Independence Day, the leader of our ally and free world arrives not in Georgia to congratulate us on independence but in Armenia, where adversaries and friends are differentiated.
The aim of today and today’s rally is to demonstrate the resilience of society, which has stood steadfast for hundreds of days, withstood repression, but could not be broken. The resilience is what angers the regime. In fact, we see that the regime is weakened. We, who can read these cracks, see that. We realize that Ivanishvili has no manoeuvre left and is begging our former allies to somehow normalize the situation. He sees that he cannot maintain power in the pro-Western Georgian society by isolating himself from the West.
We face not only threats but vast opportunities. This opportunity means that the U.S., rather than Russia, is filling the power vacuum in our region. To grab this opportunity, we should remove the anti-Western and anti-Georgian regime peacefully. Push it to the end with this resilience and transform this protest into a political process. Today’s rally is dedicated to this. A new stage will commence from today in the protest movement, since the protest, which made many cracks in this regime, will be transformed into a political process to make these cracks wider and achieve peaceful change of the regime for Georgia to become secure, to defend its independence and for Georgian people to live prosperously,” she said.
Chergoleishvili believes that the government fears peaceful protest, but even by creating obstacles and rejecting permits to hold rallies, the opposition will schedule demonstrations since assembly is a constitutional right.
“Then we will find alternative ways to reach our voice to citizens, the voice that the regime cannot suppress,” she concluded.
