Law enforcement seizes illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi and regions, nine arrested

Through targeted operational efforts and investigative actions carried out at various times, officers from the Patrol Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), along with police departments in Tbilisi, Imereti, Kakheti, and Shida Kartli, have confiscated illegal firearms and ammunition throughout Tbilisi and the surrounding regions.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nine individuals have been detained in connection with these seizures. The agency has noted that the offences carry a potential penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment.

Those detained for the illegal purchase, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition include: M.L., born in 1969; D.Gh., born in 1997; J.K., born in 1997; V.B., born in 1984; and G.G., born in 1961. Additionally, four individuals with prior convictions, R.K., born in 1995; P.Gh., born in 1970; A.B., born in 1976; and B.J., born in 1972, were also apprehended.

During searches of their personal belongings, vehicles, and residences, law enforcement officers uncovered various firearms, including automatic weapons, revolvers, and pistols, along with ammunition and firearm grips, which have been secured as evidence.

An ongoing investigation into the illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition is being conducted under Article 236 of the Criminal Code, the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
