Law enforcement foils major drug trafficking plot, five arrested
Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department have detained five individuals at different times in connection with a significant operation targeting the illegal purchase, storage, and distribution of a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The arrests include citizens from Georgia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine.
The investigation uncovered that the suspects were planning to distribute a large shipment of drugs sent from abroad in disguised packages. To intercept this operation, law enforcement conducted a controlled delivery of parcels originating from various countries, which confirmed the criminal intent of the detainees.
During the operation, authorities confiscated a variety of illicit substances in large quantities, including 311 MDMA tablets, up to nine kilograms of mephedrone, more than two kilograms of methadone, up to four kilograms of hashish, 1.5 kilograms of clephedrone, as well as marijuana and a mixture of ketamine and alpha-PVP, a potent psychotropic drug.
Additionally, materials used for packaging drugs were seized. The investigation is ongoing under Articles 19-260, 260, 260-4, and 261 of the Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
