Law enforcement foils large-scale drug smuggling into Georgia; two suspects detained
Officers from the Central Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a substantial quantity of narcotics and psychotropic substances into Georgia.
The police detained persons identified as G.Kh., born in 1987, at Kutaisi International Airport, and J.K., born in 1958, at the Sarpi customs checkpoint.
During searches of the suspects’ personal and hand luggage, law enforcement officials uncovered a significant haul of various narcotics and psychotropic substances. Additionally, a thorough inspection of the vehicle driven by one of the individuals, aided by a specialised scanner, revealed 247 hidden Suboxone pills.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260, 261, 262, and 263 of the Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
