Latvian Foreign Ministry condemns so-called presidential elections in occupied Abkhazia
“Latvia condemns the so-called early presidential elections held on 15 February in Georgia’s region of Abkhazia occupied by the Russian Federation,” reads the statement of the Latvian Foreign Ministry.
According to the statement, Latvia recognizes neither their legitimacy nor results.
“Latvia calls on Russia to fulfil all its obligations arising from the European Union-mediated ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008, and to reverse its recognition of the so-called independence of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Latvia reiterates its strong and unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally established borders,” reads the statement.
The occupied Abkhazia region holds so-called early presidential elections on February 15.
