Kobakhidze: We reaffirmed our desire to reset strategic partnership in talks with US Chargé d’Affaires
“Georgia has once again conveyed its clear commitment to resetting its strategic partnership with the United States during discussions with US Chargé d’Affaires Courtney Austrian,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists today.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the meeting with the senior US diplomat focused squarely on avenues to restore full bilateral cooperation.
“Our position is clear: we want to restore our strategic partnership with the United States,” Kobakhidze stated.
“As you know, in the period between the election and the inauguration, the previous administration suspended the strategic partnership with Georgia, a deeply heavy-handed move that was merely a continuation of the harsh policy line we witnessed under that administration.
You will recall how the former ambassador blatantly misrepresented facts, and how officials from that administration launched attacks against our country and the Georgian people, culminating in the suspension of our strategic partnership. In our meeting with Ms Chargé d’Affaires, we reiterated our firm desire to rebuild this strategic partnership. That remains our primary objective, and our discussion centred precisely on achieving that goal,” the Prime Minister concluded.
