Justice Minister opens 35th Government Commission meeting on Migration Issues
Georgian Minister of Justice Paata Salia opened the 35th meeting of the Government Commission on Migration Issues.
The minister reviewed the Georgian government’s migration policy and emphasized the significance of migration in the context of both national policy and the regional and international agenda.
According to Paata Salia, given the dynamics of modern migration processes and taking into account security, economic development, and demographic challenges, the state requires a policy that is flexible, evidence-based, and grounded in a long-term vision to effectively respond to challenges and fully harness existing opportunities.
The participants reviewed the MIA report on recent legislative amendments and summed up the outcomes of the second meeting of the UN International Migration Review Forum (IMRF).
Representatives of international organizations and the Georgian Public Defender’s Office attended the expanded meeting.
The Government Commission on Migration Issues is an advisory body to the Government of Georgia, chaired by the Ministry of Justice, while the Public Service Development Agency (a Legal Entity of Public Law) serves as the Commission’s secretariat.
