Georgia’s Justice Minister, Paata Salia, held a meeting with Najat Shameem Khan, Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the discussions centred on cooperation between the two parties and the implementation of court decisions within the framework of the ICC’s investigation into the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. Particular attention was given to the arrest warrants issued by the Court, with both sides reaffirming that safeguarding the interests of victims remains of utmost importance in the investigation of alleged crimes committed in August 2008.
The meeting underscored the importance of effective and transparent collaboration with the Court, in accordance with the obligations undertaken under the Rome Statute.
The conversation also addressed the recent ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the case of Georgia v. Russia (IV), which awarded over 253 million euros in compensation to more than 29,000 victims.
