The Jewish Council of Georgia awarded Lasha Shakulashvili for outstanding contributions to boosting Georgian-Jewish relations.

Lasha Shakulashvili, a researcher at the Rothschild Foundation and the National Library of Israel, is a visiting lecturer of the Hebrew studies program of Tbilisi State University (TSU).

96 years later, in 2022, Lasha brought back academic Yiddish language courses at TSU. Under his guidance, the first nine graduates were awarded scholarships to attend Tel Aviv University for their academic pursuits. Furthermore, Lasha received the British “Polonsky” Prize in Jewish Studies in 2023, which was dedicated to innovative teaching in the field of Hebrew studies.

Following the terrorist attack on the State of Israel on October 7, 2023, Lasha rebuffed evacuation. In addition to giving daily updates on the conflict on social media, he appeared on many TV shows and gave political summaries of the situation in Georgian, English, Yiddish, and Russian. He participates in a media initiative headed by Tel Aviv University alums, seeking to disseminate accurate information about the ongoing conflict worldwide.

In addition, Liana Markariani’s rubric “Faces” at GPB First Channel aired Lasha Shakulashvili’s story.
