James Appathurai – We will not admit Russia to decide what other countries should have as their security mechanisms
NATO will not admit that Russia decided instead of other countries what security mechanisms they should have – James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia told First Channel.
According to Appathurai, Montenegro’s example showed that despite Russia’s strong resistance, NATO made the decision about Montenegro’s NATO membership.
“NATO’s door is open to those countries, which want to become members of the alliance. This is unacceptable for Russia since it wants to have privileged and buffer zones,” Appatrurai claimed.
