James Appathurai expressed solidarity to Maia Otinashvili’s family

“Solidarity to the family of a Georgian citizen and solidarity to the woman whose images were shown on television,” James Appathurai, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Special Representative for Caucasus and Central Asia told First Channel in an exclusive interview when commenting about abduction of Maia Otinashvili, a 37-year-old Georgian woman by Russian soldiers.

According to Appathurai, the alliance has always called on Russia for stopping such activities. “Our first reaction upon similar moves is the expression of solidarity to Georgian people. Russia’s activities come into contradiction with its taken commitments, international legal norms, and principles. Georgia’s territorial integrity and state sovereignty are abridged. Abkhazia and South Ossetia represent territories of Georgia and we will never recognize their independence,” Appathurai stated.

Maia Otinashvili, a 37-year-old Georgian woman was detained by the occupational regime near the village Khurvaleti of Gori Municipality of Shida Kartli region on September 29. She is imposed to 10-day pre-trial imprisonment by de-facto Prosecutor’s Office.
