Jailed ex-president Saakashvili urges opposition not to stop half-step, limit with passive protests
“I often hear that the situation is so tense that the regime is on the verge of collapse, that everything will change for the better, but I will share my experience and tell you that we had been preparing the Rose Revolution for 2-3 years,” wrote jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili on Facebook.
He said he had visited Serbia and Ukraine to speak to opposition activists to plot the revolution’s tactics oriented on the exact prognosis and committing mistakes by Eduard Shevardnadze’s government.
According to Saakashvili, the opposition should not repeat the mistakes of Belarus.
“Now Ivanishvili is very predictable, but one gets the impression that many are surprised every time by the steps taken by the regime. However, it is enough to look at Belarus and realize what might be the Russian regime’s next steps there. We should not repeat the mistakes of the Belarussian opposition and not limit ourselves to passive protest and half steps.
However, it is praiseworthy that our youngsters and journalists demonstrated examples of true heroism. Only consistent and coordinated tactics will lead to victory. Of course, Black Swans will definitely appear, but we can’t wait for them. We may lose Georgia in the meantime,” Saakashvili wrote.
