Jailed ex-president Saakashvili calls for mass rally on May 26

“Despite relentless misinformation and provocations, we must gather in as large a number as possible on May 26 to demonstrate our unwavering stance and defend what is right,” wrote jailed former President Mikheil Saakashvili on Facebook.

Saakashvili emphasized that Georgia’s independence was under threat and urged everyone to stand guard.

“The refusal to publicly review my appeal is part of a broader effort to further isolate me through the violation of all judicial norms. The kleptocratic dictatorship fears my public presence. They have previously silenced my voice, distorted my image, and repeatedly interrupted my live videos.

Recently, they cut off my access to the information space entirely. A few days ago, the ‘court’ rejected my video link, and now the Court of Appeals has refused to hold proceedings altogether, preventing me from appearing. The more they do this, the more support I receive from the people. I am deeply grateful for their good wishes and solidarity.”

Saakashvili reiterated the importance of the upcoming rally, calling on everyone to participate in the demonstration of their commitment to justice and sovereignty.

“On May 26, we celebrate Georgia’s Independence Day—a day under threat—and everyone must stand united to protect it,” he concluded.
