Irakli Lekvinadze – Modernization of Tkibuli mine may exceed capacities of Owner Company

Modernization of Tkibuli mine is connected to significant investments and may exceed capacities of the Owner Company – Irakli Lekvinadze, Georgian Business Ombudsman stated.

According to Lekvinadze, Georgian Industrial Group Company has not had profit since the operation date. “Any process, which is hazardous for human health, needs improvement. The current infrastructure is old dated. . . . The company expressed willingness to hand over the mine to the state. However, conservation also requires expenses and some procedures,” Business Ombudsman said.

Four people died and six were injured as a result of an explosion in one of the tunnels of the Mindeli mine on July 16.
