Irakli Kobakhidze: If second wave of virus coincides with pre-election period, elections may not be held in October

Irakli Kobakhidze, a member of the parliamentary majority, says that if the second wave of the virus coincides with the pre-election period, the elections may not be held in October, but could be held in December.

According to Kobakhidze, if the Parliamentary Elections date is postponed, it won’t hinder the democratic process.

“There might be a situation when observing these rules (mask-wearing at polling stations, using antiseptics and etc.) might still not enable us to hold the elections. In this case, the consultations simply say that if such a situation occurs, the second wave coincides with the pre-election period, it might be necessary to declare a state of emergency; however, there is nothing tragic about it. It is obvious that if this happens in October and if there’s a necessity, the elections won’t be held in October and could be held, for example, in December – and this won’t substantively hinder the democratic process”, – stated Irakli Kobakhidze in the interview with “Imedi”.
