Interior Ministry hosts meeting on combating illegal arms trafficking organised by Interpol

Representatives from various units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) participated in a meeting organised by Interpol, focused on tackling the illicit trade in firearms and ammunition.

The event, held in Tbilisi, was officially opened by Irakli Dondoladze, Deputy Director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who delivered a welcoming speech.

Participants included law enforcement officials from approximately 20 countries across Europe and Central Asia.

During the proceedings, attendees discussed critical issues: emerging trends in illegal weapons trafficking, prevalent criminal schemes within the region, and the various challenges faced in counteracting these activities.

The primary aim of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation among participating states, plan joint strategies against the illicit arms trade, and identify necessary steps to ensure the effective realisation of international collaboration.

Throughout the event, the parties agreed to undertake joint operational initiatives, enhance mechanisms for information exchange, and improve coordination.

Following the meeting, INTERPOL and participating nations will continue active collaboration to ensure that subsequent actions are both results-oriented and well-coordinated.
