Infrastructure Ministry announces mandatory use of modified asphalt for road construction in 2026
Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, alongside Deputy Minister Vakhushti Bagrationi and Chairman of the Roads Department Levan Darakhvelidze, met with the representatives of the road construction companies to discuss upcoming standards.
The main topic was the Ministry’s decision to require the use of modified asphalt for the top layer of pavement in all state projects starting in 2026. This move aims to improve road durability, resistance to climate and mechanical stresses, and overall safety. Modified asphalt enhances lifespan, reduces cracking, and provides better vehicle grip.
The meeting included presentations on modern asphalt technologies, the benefits of warm asphalt, and innovative recycling and stabilisation methods using technological ash, the ministry’s press service reported.
