Heavy rainfall disrupts Imereti region: Infrastructure damaged and flooding widespread
On May 24-25, intense rainfall caused significant issues across eight municipalities in the Imereti region.
The floods damaged infrastructure: roads, agricultural fields, and residential yards were inundated. Coastal protection gabions, village bridges, and internal rural roads made of sand and gravel were also affected.
Currently, heavy machinery is being deployed to clear debris from bridges and bogs, deepen canals, and undertake other relief efforts. However, ongoing adverse weather conditions have hindered large-scale operations.
Municipal services are prepared to intensify their efforts as soon as weather conditions improve.
