Heavy rain, thunderstorms and flood risk forecast across Georgia from 20 October
Intermittent rain is expected in eastern Georgia from the night of 20 October and in western Georgia from 21 October, continuing until the afternoon of 22 October, according to the National Environmental Agency (NEA). Rain will be heavy in places, particularly in the country’s northern mountain areas and in the Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions.
Thunderstorms and strengthening winds are possible.
The agency warned that expected heavy rain could cause water levels to rise sharply and trigger flash floods on the Enguri, Aragvi, Alazani and Iori rivers and their tributaries. It could also set off or reactivate landslides and mudflows in hilly and mountainous areas and flood some urban areas. The hazard level is medium.
