Health Minister meets commission on mandatory drug addiction treatment
According to Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze, the state’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the best interests of beneficiaries and ensure their transition to the remission stage.
He emphasized that the effective work of a newly established commission, composed of high-ranking professionals, will play a key role in implementing these plans. The commission includes a narcologist, the head of the Mental Health and Drug Abuse Prevention Center, and representatives from the Ministries of Health and Internal Affairs.
The commission will oversee the placement of patients in the newly opened inpatient facility at the Mental Health and Drug Abuse Prevention Center, designed for mandatory treatment. Sarjveladze noted that the clinic operates with a multidisciplinary team of narcologists, psychologists, therapists, other medical specialists, and social workers.
Treatment at the facility is carried out in line with modern clinical guidelines and international standards, fully adapted to the individual needs of each patient, the Minister stressed.
The commission is set to hold its first meeting today, during which members will discuss key operational issues and outline a work strategy.
