“Gruzia” or “Sakartvelia” – State Commission of Lithuanian Language to make decision
The State Commission of Lithuanian Language will decide on April 5 if Georgia will be renamed into “Gruzia” or “Sakartvelia” in the Lithuanian language.
According to new agency Delf, opinions of 17 members of the State Commission are divided about the name. Besides, Vilnius City Hall initiated naming of one city “Gruzinu” or “Kartvelu.”
Lithuania has moved to change the name it uses for Georgia to “Sakartvelo,” the name Georgia calls itself, upon request of Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
