GPB Dir/Gen says newsroom inspired by need for constructive journalism

“The Public Broadcaster’s newsroom is imbued with the imperative of constructive journalism, and the public will see in action the quest for a solution, which we urgently need in our polarized world,” said GPB First Channel Director General Tinatin Berdzenishvili.

Berdzenishvili appreciates that Ulrik Haagerup, the founder of the Constructive Journalism Institute and author of the well-known book Constructive Journalism, is in Tbilisi at the invitation of the GPB.

“We’ve been talking about constructive journalism for several years. I am delighted that Ulrik Haagerup, the Institute for Constructive Journalism’s founder, CEO, and author of the well-known book Constructive Journalism, has joined us. It is a true privilege, including for our country. Today, we are discussing constructive journalism with our journalists, and tomorrow, we will have a meeting with industry representatives.

One of the book’s quotations reads, “Everyone wants progress, but no one wants change.” We want and have applied for a change. Eleven GPB journalists have graduated from the Institute for Constructive Journalism in Denmark. Six more and some producers are preparing to go. I believe that most of our newsroom is imbued with this mindset, the need for constructive journalism, and our society will soon witness in practice the quest for a solution that we so desperately need in a polarized world and our country,” GPB Gen/Dir remarked.

Today, Ulrik Haagerup, founder of the Danish Constructive Institute, is hosting a workshop for GPB journalists. The conference, which will include partner institutions, will take place on November 18.
