Prosecutor Medea Tsiramua: Irakli Garibashvili questioned over Lazare Jorbenadze case, clarifies he possesses no information on suicide

“Former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has been questioned in connection with public statements he made regarding the suicide of Lazare Jorbenadze,” Prosecutor Medea Tsiramua explained.

The prosecutor stated that Garibashvili categorically denied possessing any direct information regarding Jorbenadze’s death.

During questioning, the case prosecutor noted, Garibashvili explained that his publicly circulated letters were based on unverified rumours gleaned from various media outlets.

“As part of the ongoing Ministry of Internal Affairs investigation into the suicide of Lazare Jorbenadze on 4 June 2026, a series of investigative and procedural actions were carried out, including questioning every individual connected to Jorbenadze, among them his family members and spouse. That investigation conclusively established the fact of Lazare Jorbenadze’s suicide.

Notwithstanding these findings, following certain public statements made in the media, a decision was taken to question a specific circle of individuals, including Irakli Garibashvili. Under questioning, Irakli Garibashvili clarified that he possesses no information whatsoever concerning the suicide of Lazare Jorbenadze. Consequently, his testimony yielded no additional factual evidence regarding the case. His open letters relied merely on floating rumours gathered from various publications. His public letters were based solely on these reports rather than any concrete information. He was emphatic that he possessed no first-hand knowledge regarding the suicide of Lazare Jorbenadze,” the prosecutor stated.
