Gov't plans to complete suspended hydropower plants

Over $1 billion will probably be spent on completing suspended 800 MW hydropower projects across Georgia, the Georgian Prime Minister said at today’s Cabinet meeting, noting that by the end of the year, the government will also announce a tender for the construction of new 1,500 MW HPPs, which is a direct investment of $2.5 billion.

In parallel with the HPP construction, the PM said that the government was working on creating additional capacity and planning to build a thermal plant to obtain an additional 600 megawatts of capacity. The complete investment would reach about $3-4 billion over the next two or three years.

The PM stated that the government would also launch the tender for the new energy infrastructure by the end of the year, with a direct investment of $2.5 billion, mainly focusing on hydroelectric, wind and solar plants.
