Gov't, opposition, EU mediator to continue consultations on Thursday
A joint consultation of the ruling Georgian Dream, the opposition parties and EU mediator on the ongoing political crisis in Georgia is over. The 4-hour-long meeting took place at the premises of the EU Representation in Georgia.
The opposition reported no agreement was reached, but said that talks would continue on March 19.
“We had a productive meeting, but we will continue with a more important part tomorrow. The agreement means agreement on everything rather than over one particular issue. There will be no agreement until we discuss everything,” said Vakhtang Megrelishvili, a member of the Girchi party.
“Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed,” said Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party.
“There is no issue to drop. If there is a will, parties will overcome any difficulty,” said Badri Japaridze from the Lelo party.
Giga Bokeria, leader of the European Georgia party, assessed the negotiations as tough. He said he could say nothing about the outcome since the consultations are not over.
Aleko Elisashvili, leader of the Citizens party, said he was optimistic about the consultations. “We worked on the details and moved forward. Everything will be clear soon,” he claimed.
Christian Danielsson, Personal Representative of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, held a joint meeting with representatives of the opposition and the government. The negotiations will continue on March 18.
